Robert Guy

conductor

Welsh conductor Robert Guy was born with severe hearing loss until a life-changing operation as a child changed his sound world. Now, as an internationally recognised conductor, he transforms that early silence into powerful, electrifying performances. Robert Guy is currently co-artistic director of the NEW Sinfonia and principal conductor of the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. His recent conducting highlights include his West End debut at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane with vocalist Lucy Thomas, the world premiere of a new version of Danny Elfman's Wunderkammer at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the world premiere of the opera, Gresford: Up From Underground at the North Wales International Music Festival. Robert Guy has acted as assistant conductor to Simon Halsey for the BBC Proms Youth Choir and has guest conducted the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, The Orchestra of Opera North and the Huddersfield Choral Society. He has appeared at the Manchester International Festival with the Manchester Camerata and trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth and at the Chopin Piano Festival in Pristina with the Kosovo Philharmonic and pianist Peter Donohoe. Robert Guy is passionate about music education. At the University of Manchester, he leads one of the largest university music programmes in the UK, inspiring hundreds of young musicians to discover their own voices.
