Evan Shallcross

Principal Second Violin

Evan Shallcross was born in the USA and was appointed Principal Second Violin of City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong in 2016. Previously he performed with the Macao Orchestra, occasionally appearing as leader or soloist. He has performed extensively with professional ensembles in the USA, including the Minnesota Orchestra and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree from the Yale University School of Music. His teachers include Milan Vitek and Syoko Aki. Evan Shallcross has competed in the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition and the Mozart International Competitions. In 2004 he received the Interlochen Arts Camp Maddy Award for outstanding violinist, as well as various prizes resulting from his participation at the Interlochen Concerto Competition. He also received prizes from his participation in the Kenwood Symphony Masters Concerto Competition and the Aria Competition in Minneapolis. Parallel to his performing career, Evan Shallcross has cultivated a deep passion for music education, becoming a sought-after pedagogue for violin coaching and chamber music. In addition to music his interests extend to political and social sciences, economics, technology, philosophy, dance and photography.
