MARIA LIZA TARANG

Maria Liza Tarang started playing the violin at the age of seven and joined the Philippine Youth Orchestra at the age of ten. As a professional player she has performed with the Manila Symphony and Chamber Orchestras and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also served as concertmaster of the National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Clarion Chamber Ensemble, the San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra. Liza has represented her country in several ASEAN Music Workshops abroad. She participated in the First Pacific Music Festival under Leonard Bernstein in Sapporo, Japan and was awarded a Fellowship Grant by the Association of Japanese Orchestras which resulted in performances with several orchestras in Japan. She was also granted a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service which enabled her to study under the tutelage of Wanda Wilkomirska of the Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik Heidelberg-Mannheim in Germany. In Manila Liza continues to be a sought-after orchestra leader for both classical and pops concerts. She became a member of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong in 2008.
