Gilbert
Sak graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in New York and received
his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the Ball State
University, Indiana and the University of South Carolina. He also pursued
studies on the violin at the Darstellende Hochschule fur Musik und Kunst
in Hamburg and the Guildhall School of Music in London. His professional
engagements include Principal Second Violin of the South Carolina Philharmonic
Orchestra and the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Concertmaster
of the Augusta Symphony Orchestra. In 1998 Dr. Sak joined the Malaysian
Philharmonic Orchestra in its inaugural season. He returned to Hong Kong
in 2000 and has been active as a music educator, performer and conductor.
In addition to performing with the CCOHK, he teaches violin at the HK Academy
for Performing Arts and HK Baptist University. He is also the founder and
music director of the Hong Kong Civic Youth Orchestra.
