On 06 May 2010 the CCOHK presented the Hong Kong debut of internationally acclaimed early music soprano DAME EMMA KIRKBY. Here are some comments from audience members who attended the concert:

Excellent programme and soloist, a tasteful combination and choice of music! It’s a real treat. Congratulations especially to Leanne Nicholls’ excellent solo. In the Purcell suite, the violins sounded quite dispersed and shaky and were overwhelmed by the continuo.

Dame Emma Kirkby really lived up to expectation as the Queen of Baroque. Blending lyricism and dynamism, she painted a musical portrait that showcased a range of emotive sensitivity – from the plaintive and poignant to exuberance and ecstasy. A truly wonderful concert – I felt so inspired after listening to both the orchestra and soloist.

There is no doubt on the quality of Dame Emma Kirkby’s performance. A wonderful event – very nice programme, excellent orchestra and conductor Mr Simon Over. However I feel that the concert hall environment is not so suitable for the chamber music, a church or more enclosed room is better. The sale of the artist’s CDs and the autograph session was most appreciated.
