Director's Notes

Dear Friends,

Our year of the Tiger got off on a busy foot with as many as six performances during the month of March. Our Baroque Concertos 2 concert on 27 March at Union Church was hugely enjoyable. To read the preview of the concert in the SCMP click here. The programme ended with a special touch - playing Vivaldi in candlelight in recognition of Earth Hour. Here are some photos of the concert:

On 17 March we were at Yuen Long Theatre giving a re-run of Jean Bunton’s Sing the Sounds of English for local school children in the area. The opportunity to work again with stage director and choreographer Rex Chiu and the creative talents of Matthew Hale and Corinna Chamberlain was sheer delight. The kids loved it! Franky, our fabulous photographer, was there to capture the moment:

Each season it is a tradition for the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong to devote one concert to young talent. This season our annual “Rising Star” concert will feature the talents of one of Singapore’s brightest young artists - violinist Loh Jun-hong. At just 19 years of age Loh Jun-hong has won prizes at many international competitions. Moreover, he has been the featured soloist at the Singapore Arts Festival and has represented Singapore at many important cultural events. We are pleased to present him in his debut concert in Hong Kong on 23 April at Sha Tin Town Hall, playing Mozart’s Concerto for Violin No. 5 “The Turkish”.

Shortly afterwards on 6 May we will be performing with Dame Emma Kirkby. Tickets have already gone on sale at URBTIX. I am pleased to announce that Dame Emma Kirkby will also be giving a masterclass on Saturday 8 May from 10am-12 noon. Do check out the leaflets or our website at www.ccohk.com for more information.

AEDAS, our major partner, has just opened up a website dedicated to AEDAS in the community. Click here to read more about how the City Chamber Orchestra Orchestra of Hong Kong is partnering with one of Hong Kong’s most remarkable architectural firms.

Best wishes,
