Damara
Lomdaridze began her viola studies with Wayne Crouse in her hometown
of Norman, Oklahoma. She co-founded the Norman Youth Quartet which won a
special award from the city of Norman for its contributions to the cultural
enrichment of the city. In 1990 she won the solo and quartet divisions in
the Buttram String Awards. Damara received her Bachelor of Music degree
in viola performance from Indiana University. She also holds a Masters in
Music degree from the University of North Texas where she won the 1997 UNT
Concerto Competition playing the Walton viola concerto and the Outstanding
Graduate Student Award in Instrumental Studies. Among her teachers were
Alan DeVeritch, Joseph De Pasquale, Atar Arad and George Papich. From 1998
to 2002 Damara was a member of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New
Orleans and served as assistant principal viola for the orchestra's 1999/2000
season. She has also performed with the Missouri Chamber Orchestra and with
the Pharos Soloists led by Levon Chilingirian in Cyprus, Prague and London.
Damara has been based in Hong Kong since 2002 and has performed with the
Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. She is currently
a member of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong.
