Ho Hong-ying violin (photos) Ho Hong-ying received international exposure at a very young age when she was featured in the film "From Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China" and won fourth prize in the First Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition. A native of Guangzhou, she entered the Central Conservatory of Beijing at the age of ten. There she performed for Dorothy Delay, who subsequently invited her to study at the Juilliard School of Music. Ho has appeared as soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and the Jupiter Symphony Orchestra in New York among others. She is also an active chamber musician. Kristin Mjöll Jakobsdottir bassoon (photos) Kristín Mjoll Jakobsdóttir studied bassoon in Iceland, Amsterdam and the USA. She holds a Masters Degree from the School of Music at Yale University and a Diploma in music from Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. In 1991 she joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and stayed in Hong Kong for almost seven years before moving back to her native Iceland in 1998. While in Hong Kong Kristín performed the Weber Concerto with the Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra and was a member of the chamber ensemble ‘I fiati dolci’. While in Hong Kong she also organised a concert of Scandinavian Chamber Music at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and taught contrabassoon at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Kristin is currently a regular freelance bassoonist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Iceland Opera Orchestra and the Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra. She is also very active in the local chamber music scene. In 2003 she formed her own chamber group, a wind octet, which has since performed regularly and commissioned several new works. In 2007 Kristín received a grant from the State of Iceland enabling her to perform and record Icelandic music for solo bassoon. Kristín is presently the chairman of the Association of Icelandic Musicians and plays an active role in the development of Icelandic musical life. Dame Emma Kirkby soprano (photos) Dame Emma Kirkby has achieved iconic status as one of the world's most renowned Early Music specialists. Colin Touchin Guest Conductor (photos) Colin Touchin has been Director of Music at the University of Warwick for over 13 years. Previously he was Head of Composition at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, where for 8 years he conducted the Classical Orchestra, founded the Symphonic Wind Orchestra and taught clarinet, recorder, composition, conducting, chamber music, electronic music and jazz. He has founded several ensembles including the Warwick Orchestral Winds, the British Universities Honours Band and the National Youth Recorder Orchestra.
